First: What are genetic diseases?

These are diseases caused by defects in genes or chromosomes, which may be passed on from parents to children or appear as a result of new mutations.

Second: Diagnosis of genetic diseases

1) Before pregnancy

🔹 Genetic testing for couples (Carrier Screening)

The couple’s blood is analyzed to see if they carry genes for genetic diseases such as:
•    Thalassemia
•    Sickle cell anemia
•    Muscular dystrophy
    •    Cystic fibrosis
    •    Metabolic diseases

This screening is especially important:
    •    If there is a history of disease in the family
    •    In cases of marriage between relatives
    •    If there is a previous child with the disease

2) During pregnancy

🔹 Tests for the pregnant mother
‏ • NIPT: A blood test to detect Down syndrome and certain other diseases.
• Detailed ultrasound to detect fetal abnormalities.

🔹 Fetal sample testing
• CVS (chorionic villus sampling) – at 11–14 weeks
• Amniocentesis (fetal water sample) – at 15–20 weeks
These tests detect most genetic disorders and chromosomal abnormalities. •    Amniocentesis (fetal water sample) – in weeks 15–20

These tests detect most genetic and chromosomal disorders.

3) Before transfer in IVF procedures

🔹 Genetic testing of embryos (PGD/PGT)

Used to prevent the transmission of genetic diseases by:
•    Taking a cell from the embryo
•    Testing it to detect affected genes
•    Selecting only healthy embryos before transfer

Third: Treatment of genetic diseases

1) Treatment before pregnancy

✔ PGD/PGT

Selection of healthy embryos free from known genetic diseases in the family.

2) Treatment during life

Depends on the type of disease and may include:

🎯 Gene therapy
•    A modern technique that aims to repair the defective gene.
•    Currently used in some diseases such as spinal muscular atrophy.

🎯 Drug therapy

Such as:
•    Sickle cell anemia drugs
    •    Metabolic drugs
    •    Cystic fibrosis drugs

🎯 Dietary therapy

Especially in:
    •    Metabolic diseases
    •    Phenylketonuria
    •    Some rare enzymes
Where certain foods are strictly prohibited or regulated.

🎯 Enzyme therapy

For specific enzyme deficiency diseases.

🎯 Supportive therapy
• Physical therapy
• Medical devices
• Corrective surgeries
• Educational support

FAQs About The Service

There are many questions about the service, we have selected frequently asked questions about this service. If you do not see your answer, please contact us.

Is treatment expensive?
Treatment can be more expensive than other simpler methods, but not all couples need IVF straight away; doctors always try to choose the most suitable and least expensive methods first, if possible.
Can I exercise during treatment?
You can often continue with light activities, but it is best to avoid strenuous exercise or intense sports during the stimulation period or after embryo transfer, as directed by your doctor.
Could I be eligible for intrauterine insemination (IUI) before IVF?
Yes. In some cases where fertility is not completely impaired, intrauterine insemination (IUI) may be the first treatment option before moving on to IVF if it is unsuccessful.
When can I take a pregnancy test after embryo transfer?
A blood pregnancy test is usually performed about 10-14 days after embryo transfer to confirm pregnancy.
