Helping you Move + Feel Better

If you’re living with significant pain and discomfort from an orthopedic(musculoskeletal) condition, you know firsthand how much it can affect your quality of life. Seemingly simple tasks like walking, climbing stairs or evenstanding become much more difficult. On a positive note, our bone, joint and muscle specialists are here to get you moving again.

What are fibroids?

Fibroids are benign tumors that grow in the uterine muscle and may cause:
• Heavy bleeding
• Pelvic pain
• Pressure on the bladder
•    Delayed pregnancy or recurrent miscarriage in some cases

What is laparoscopic fibroid removal?

It is a minimally invasive surgical procedure in which fibroids are removed from the uterus through very small incisions in the abdomen instead of traditional open surgery.

This type of surgery is considered less painful, faster healing, and safer.

How is the procedure performed?

Usually, 3–4 small incisions are made in the abdomen to insert:
• A laparoscopic camera
• Precise surgical instruments

This is done to give the doctor a clear working space.

• The doctor locates the fibroids in the uterus
• He separates them from the uterine wall
• Removes the fibroid in pieces through one of the incisions

• The uterus is carefully sutured to maintain its strength and ensure future pregnancies are possible.

Advantages of laparoscopic fibroid removal

Very small incisions
Less pain
Faster recovery (days instead of weeks)
Less bleeding
Better cosmetic results
Quick return to normal life
Future pregnancy possible in most cases

When is fibroid removal recommended?

Very heavy bleeding
Severe pain or pressure on organs
Delayed pregnancy or recurrent miscarriage
Rapid growth in size
Large fibroids or fibroids that distort the uterine cavity

Types of fibroids that can be removed laparoscopically

Subserosal fibroids
Intramural fibroids
Some large fibroids, depending on the skill of the doctor
Submucosal fibroids are usually removed through the uterus rather than the abdomen.

Duration of the procedure and recovery

Duration of the procedure: 1 to 3 hours, depending on the number of fibroids
Hospital discharge: usually on the same day or the following day
Return to work: within 3–7 days
Return to full activities: approximately two weeks

Does the procedure affect pregnancy?

On the contrary, it may improve the chances of pregnancy if the fibroids are the cause of infertility. However:
It is often recommended to wait 3–6 months before trying to conceive.
In some cases, women may be advised to have a cesarean section after the procedure, depending on the depth of the sutures in the uterus.

FAQs About The Service

There are many questions about the service, we have selected frequently asked questions about this service. If you do not see your answer, please contact us.

Is treatment expensive?
Treatment can be more expensive than other simpler methods, but not all couples need IVF straight away; doctors always try to choose the most suitable and least expensive methods first, if possible.
Can I exercise during treatment?
You can often continue with light activities, but it is best to avoid strenuous exercise or intense sports during the stimulation period or after embryo transfer, as directed by your doctor.
Could I be eligible for intrauterine insemination (IUI) before IVF?
Yes. In some cases where fertility is not completely impaired, intrauterine insemination (IUI) may be the first treatment option before moving on to IVF if it is unsuccessful.
When can I take a pregnancy test after embryo transfer?
A blood pregnancy test is usually performed about 10-14 days after embryo transfer to confirm pregnancy.
