About Case
In vitro fertilization (IVF) is an assisted reproduction technique that involves extracting eggs from the ovary and fertilizing them in the laboratory with sperm from the partner or an anonymous donor. The resulting embryos are cultured and later transferred to the uterus to achieve pregnancy.
In vitro fertilization is one of the most popular assisted reproduction treatments.
TREATMENTS
Types of IVF treatments
The following types of in vitro fertilization treatments are available.
The first and third options imply that the patient must be accompanied by her partner for part of the process, as a semen sample will be required for fertilisation.
In Vitro Fertilization Success Rates
In in vitro fertilization traement (IVF), IVF-Life has success rates of over 70%, meaning that 7 out of 10 patients achieve pregnancy.
These results improve when IVF is combined with preimplantation genetic testing (PGT), increasing the success rate to 8 out of 10 patients.
The purpose of genetic diagnosis is to detect and prevent the transmission of severe genetic or chromosomal diseases to the future baby.
DONORS
IVF treatment with donor sperm
At IVF-Life we carry out more tests than those established by Spanish legislation in order to select sperm and egg donors with the highest level of safety guarantees.
Spanish legislation, which allows anonymous egg donation as well as sperm donation, indicates that the identity of the donor cannot be known, just as the donor cannot know the identity of the baby born from his or her donation.
IVF-Life has the firm commitment to go further in the regulation of the study and acceptance of donors as established by Spanish legislation, and performs additional tests with the purpose of using donor eggs and sperm with the greatest guarantee of safety.
Conventional in vitro fertilization or IVF
During conventional IVF treatment, the egg is incubated together with the semen sample in a culture dish so that a sperm can fertilise it naturally. This technique is used when the semen sample is of high quality.
Intracytoplasmic sperm injection, or ICSI
With ICSI in vitro fertilization, the embryologist selects the sperm with the best fertilisation capacity and microinjects them into each egg to be fertilised. This technique is used when the semen sample is of poor quality.
Sometimes, when there is a considerable number of quality eggs, embryologists use the mixed fertilization technique, in which half of the eggs are fertilised by conventional IVF and the other half by ICSI.
