Common Questions

What is infertility?
Infertility is the inability to conceive after trying regularly for a full year without using contraception. It can be caused by factors in the woman, the man, or both.
When do I need a fertility evaluation?
If pregnancy does not occur after a year of trying naturally (less than a year if the woman is over 35), it is advisable to visit a fertility specialist for a medical evaluation.
What is in vitro fertilization (IVF)?
IVF is an assisted reproductive technology used when traditional methods fail, where eggs are fertilized with sperm outside the body in a specialized laboratory, and then the embryos are returned to the woman's uterus.
What are the steps of an IVF cycle?
The basic steps include:
Stimulating the ovaries with medication to produce multiple eggs.
Retrieving the eggs.
Fertilizing them with sperm in the laboratory.
Transferring the embryos to the uterus.
Waiting for the pregnancy test.
How long does an IVF cycle take?
It depends on the treatment plan, but it is usually 3 to 6 weeks from the start of stimulation to embryo transfer.
Is IVF painful?
Anesthesia is used during egg retrieval, so you will not feel any pain during the procedure. You may feel some minor discomfort after the procedure, but it is usually temporary.
Do I need intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI)?
ICSI is used when there are problems with the sperm or previous fertilization has failed. This technique increases the chances of fertilization in the laboratory.
Is the treatment always successful the first time?
The success rate varies depending on factors such as age, egg and sperm quality, and ovarian function. Some couples are successful on the first cycle, while others need more than one attempt.

Services Questions

Is treatment expensive?
Treatment can be more expensive than other simpler methods, but not all couples need IVF straight away; doctors always try to choose the most suitable and least expensive methods first, if possible.
Can I exercise during treatment?
You can often continue with light activities, but it is best to avoid strenuous exercise or intense sports during the stimulation period or after embryo transfer, as directed by your doctor.
Could I be eligible for intrauterine insemination (IUI) before IVF?
Yes. In some cases where fertility is not completely impaired, intrauterine insemination (IUI) may be the first treatment option before moving on to IVF if it is unsuccessful.
When can I take a pregnancy test after embryo transfer?
A blood pregnancy test is usually performed about 10-14 days after embryo transfer to confirm pregnancy.
